Bass culture: A conversation with Caspar Melville, Anna Gavanas and Anna Öström

An evening examining how the musical cultures of Rare Groove, Acid House, Jungle and Grime have redesigned and remapped Swedish and UK cities from the underground up. The events bring together two recent books, Tillbaka till underjorden (Back to the underground) by Anna Gavanas & Anna Östrom and It’s a London Thing by Caspar Melville to centre spatial histories, autonomous designing and social production that often goes overlooked in mainstream accounts of these musical cultures. The talk will also focus on the current changes that is right now happening in the Järntorget area. And address the question of how underground and independent music and culture can be a part of the future as well as the past of this area.

After the talks there will be different DJs playing Rare Groove, Acid House, Jungle and Grime mentioned and inspired by the books. Special guests: Paula Max and Struck.

Both the books It’s a London Thing and Tillbaka till underjorden will be available during the evening.

During the day there will also be events at Röhsska museet and a walk through club history of the city from Vasaplatsen to Järntorget.
